Although it was the break and I should therefore have taken a break, I have work to do and deadlines to meet! But, since I’m in the Ideation phase, doing my work means creating and making things. It’s very enjoyable and feels a lot less like “work”. 

This week I also started thinking about the naming and branding of my project! That’s a half lie because I can’t help but envision the aesthetics from the very start but this week is when I started to seriously think about it. 

For the name, I had originally thought of “Co-Cultivate”; capturing the essence of co-design through the food-related use of “cultivate” as a metaphor for growth and inspiration. A pretty good metaphor if I may say so myself. I gave it some more thought and decided to shorten it to just “Cultivate”. “Co-Cultivate” was a bit of a mouthful and subtracting “co” from the name didn’t take too much away from the meaningfulness.

For the branding, I wanted it to feel professional but playful, and also capture a sense of Kiwiness. At the moment, I’m leaning towards a monotone colour scheme to reflect our national associating with black, white and silver e.g. All Blacks, All Whites, Silver Ferns. I was inspired by this image on Pinterest of a coffee brand. I liked how clean the colours looked and the incorporation of playful illustrations. 

I also spent quite a lot of time writing my Capstone report this week. I wanted to write as much as possible to make future Ally’s life easier but it was quite challenging because all the good stuff is still yet to come. I was worried that if I wrote too much I would just be writing for the sake of writing and would end up deleting and replacing a lot of it once I did more prototyping and testing. Because of this, I tried to be strategic with what I wrote about and specifically wrote in sections that I was unlikely to drastically change or add to in the future.
